Air filters are the first step to tuning any engine. The principle is simple, the more air you get in the engine, the more power you get out. Ok, so there is obviously more to it than that, but bolting on an induction kit can increase your cars power from 1-2bhp, up to 15bhp (rolling road proven!!) With modern ECU's you don't have to re-map or tune the engine, just bolt the kit on! Even a replacement element alone can add a couple of horses, and you never have to replace it, so they quickly pay for themselves. For the maximum power, you can go for a K&N typhoon kit, or an enclosed intake system like the BMC CDA kits maximising cold air intake.

Performance exhausts are a great way to improve the power, and sound of your car! Even with just a sports exhaust back box, your car can sound like it means business and have a noticeable improvement in power. For the maximum power increase though, a full exhaust system is the way forward. Sports cat, or de-cat pipe (not road legal) and tubular manifold give further power gains. Free flowing exhausts get the gases out of the engine quicker, and help improve power and acceleration, especially at higher revs.

The stock intercooler on the 208 GTi is the same compromised side mount intercooler used on the 207 GTi, and its not up to the job even on a stock car. On a remapped engine with the stock intercooler of the Forge test vehicle, they saw inlet temperatures of 105 deg C – the highest they had recorded on any car ever! This has a huge detrimental effect on power and torque.
The new Forge intercooler is a full replacement single pass (left to right) core which mounts to the stock crash bar in the car. The pipework supplied with the Forge intercooler joins to the pipes that connected to the stock intercooler so installation is easy. The only cutting needed is to the ducting on the radiator to allow the pipework to pass through. All the silicon hoses, hard pipes, clips, bolts, nuts and jubilee clips needed to install the intercooler are included, along with full colour installation instructions.
The Forge test vehicle had a Superchips remap. They tested the stock intercooler and the Forge intercooler back to back on the same day and the increases were dramatic!
Intake temperature dropped form 105 deg C to 45 deg C - a drop of 60 degrees!
Power went from 190bhp to 224 bhp – an increase of 34bhp, Torque went from 222 lbft to 244 lbft – an increase of 22 lbft
You can look at the dyno graphs to the left for the standard intercooler, the Forge intercooler and a comparison of the two showing the increases. PLEASE REMEMBER this was specific to the car Forge had in for testing, and you may not get the same results from a stock or mildly tuned car.
